New AskAway Tag: AI Literacy

You can now apply the new AI Literacy tag to your chat sessions with AskAway patrons in LibraryH3lp.

Purpose

The AI Literacy tag was developed by the AskAway Emerging Technologies Working Group and reviewed by Local Coordinators. The purpose of the tag is to better understand and assess the types of questions about AI tools that patrons are asking on the service. With a tag in place, we can easily identify chats that include AI literacy content since keyword searching is time consuming and does not always return meaningful results.

Definition

AI Literacy
When a patron asks a question about using an artificial intelligence (AI) tool. This includes questions about how to interact with AI tools and may include but is not limited to questions about the following:

• using an AI tool in a research database 
• writing an AI prompt 
• citing an AI tool 
• following up on the output from an AI tool (for example, navigating hallucinations and finding relevant and real resources, verifying information, managing data, etc.) 
• evaluating AI tools more broadly, including questions about institutional AI guidelines or ethical considerations.  

In some cases, it may be appropriate to apply an additional tag such as Citation.

When a patron assumes that AskAway is a chat bot or a Generative AI tool.

Questions concerning any type of citation style. 

Copyright 
Questions relating to copyright. This includes questions about fair dealing, open licenses, and referrals to a copyright specialist.

When a patron is referred to their home library.

• Note: You may apply this tag for questions related to accessing AI statement / institutional best practices or when patrons are seeking access to institutional AI workshops / support as available.

Research 
When an in-depth question involves searches in a database or catalogue or involves consulting multiple websites or reference materials. The question involves interpretation or instruction at an advanced level. For example, "I need articles on how television influences children." This session could also include familiarity with course assignments, subject knowledge, discussion of resources, and recommendations of research strategies. 

Technical
Questions relating to software, computer equipment, or printers.
